Beyond the Surface: Exploring the World of Urethral Sounding

July 1, 2024

Urethra, the final frontier! As soon as boys discover their penis, they never leave it alone. And while jerking off can give you hours of fun, sometimes it's fun to spice it up and add some kink to your jerk sessions. After you've tried cock rings, pumps, weights, stretchers, and plenty of other cock and ball play kinks, there is only one last frontier to explore. Urethral sounding!

Urethral sounding is the practice of inserting metal or silicone rods or toys into the urethral opening of your penis. Normally, when you jerk off, you're massaging the outside of your penis. Sounding allows you to massage your penis from the inside, with the added bonus (with practice, we'll discuss later) of stimulating your prostate! If you really get into sounding and want to take it a step further, you can look into catheters, but that's a whole other topic that we're not going to cover right now. Right now, we're going to stop at the prostate.

To get technical, the urethra is the tube that comes out of your bladder, through the middle of your prostate, down the length of your penis and out. That's what makes sounding so fun and pleasurable; you can't miss the prostate! As with all sexual encounters, give yourself enthusiastic consent to explore your penis and kinks, and let's get sounding!

Now, to the goods!

Sounding really only requires 3 things: Your penis, sounding rods, and lube.

Sounding rods could possibly be found at your local adult store, especially if they have a fetish section, but can be found most easily online. Start simple and work your way up to larger sizes or textures if you enjoy your experiences. The best option for most beginners is to get a kit of stainless-steel sounding rods with multiple sizes to choose from (like these ones) This way, you don't have to guess what size will work or fit or scare you off your journey! Plus, if you enjoy yourself, you already have additional sizes to try out!

Because you are inserting something inside your body, a sterile lubricant is highly recommended. While anal sex is *technically* inserting something inside your body, the urethra leads to your bladder and could cause infection if you're not careful. Sterile lubricants can be found easily online as well. Most of the websites that sell sounding rods and toys will carry sterile lubricants in either tubes or single-use packets. We recommend getting packets because you don't have to worry about them getting contaminated in between sounding sessions.

There are a ton of options online for different shapes, lengths, circumferences, textures, materials, functions, etc. The world of kink is as wide and varied as your own imagination. Don't be intimidated by all the options online. This is your self-exploration kink journey! So, get your journey started and see where the rod leads you.

Shopping done, Let's get to sounding.

Tools for the main event:
Penis
Sounding rods
Sterile lubricant
Latex/poly gloves (optional)
Towel/cum rag
Porn for inspiration

Time to prepare.

When getting yourself set up, remember that you're going to have multiple pieces around you, so make sure you set up in a space that gives you room to spread out and be comfortable, but keep everything within reach. When using sounding rods, more lube is better, so lay down a towel to catch excess lube and, if everything goes to plan, your cummy reward!

Now that you have your space set, let's prepare the sounds themselves. Because you're going to be inserting a steel rod into your urethra, we recommend always boiling the rods before use. Bring some water to a boil in a pan and drop the rods into the water for a few seconds to make sure they are extra clean. After boiling them, pour off the water and let them cool on a clean towel or paper towel. And with that, you're ready to get to work!

Set your sounds out next to where you plan to explore. Set your mood lighting. Get your inspirational porn going. Open a few packets of lube and set them next to your sounds. If you choose to wear gloves, glove up and get comfy.

Time for the main event!

Once you're comfy and all of your tools are at hand, get inspired! Sounding can be done while you're soft, but it's easier to do when you're hard. You don't have to be completely bricked up, but a nice firm dick makes it easier to control. Once you're good and firm, (retract your foreskin, if necessary/lucky*) put some lube on the tip of your dick, right on your urethra. Hold your dick gently with your non-dominant hand. Select the sounding rod that you feel comfortable starting with, rub the tip of the sound into the lube to get it started on the sound, then relax and place the tip of the sound into your urethra. DO NOT PUSH! Let the weight of the sound do the work at first. Lube+steel+gravity = plenty of penetration for the first time. Take your time and let your body relax.

Once you have the sound inserted to where you're comfortable, start experimenting, stroke your dick with the rod inserted, and pull the sound in and out of your urethra. Add lube if necessary. Generosity is key! Start to gently push the sound further into your penis. Eventually, you will feel the sound stop once it hits your prostate. Don't push too hard, just gently massage your penis and the sound. Reminder, in a seated position, your urethra is shaped like a 'U'. Your bladder sits above your pelvic bone and below your belly button, so unless you're using a silicone sound, the metal sounding rod is not going to make that u-turn.

Incorporate any of your usual masturbation go-to's with your new experience. Play with your balls, play with your nipples, hit some poppers, and explore your new toys! Don't be afraid to add more lube.

Tldr: Sounding feels good. Sounding rods go in your urethra. Get a kit of sounding rods for variety. Use lots of sterile lube to ease it in. Let gravity do the work. Get to stroking, and cum everywhere.

Which personal lubricant is most appropriate for you?
There are three general types of intimate lubricants. You have a choice and determine which one is most suitable for you.

Silicone lubricants contain only silicones, no water. They are the longest lasting, provide extended glide, do not dry out and are also water-resistant. They are not absorbed by the skin or mucous membranes. This makes them ideal for longer sex sessions and for use in water, such as the pool, since they do not readily rinse away. These products have a more concentrated texture and are also ideal in the absence of natural lubrication.

Water based lubricants contain little or no silicone. They have a lighter, wetter feel than silicone-based lubricants due to added humectants, and they are ideal for enhancing natural lubrication. They are safe for use with all sex toys, and are easily washable from skin or fabrics. The consistency of water-based lubricants can range from an easy-to-pour liquid to a more concentrated gel, and they are relatively long lasting.

Hybrid lubricants consist of a blend of water, clear or cream emulsifiers, and silicone. Hybrids are ideal for enhancing natural lubrication, are longer lasting than water-based formulas, and have a uniquely soft, velvety feel. They are easily washable from skin or fabrics, they are safe for most sex toys and may also be used for light massage.

Does silicone remain in the body?
Silicone cannot be absorbed and is naturally evacuated from the body.

Which GUN OIL® products are safe to use with my sex toys?
As a general rule, silicone lubricants should not be used with porous products made of silicone, cyber-skin, jelly toys or similar materials. Silicone-based lubricants are not usually recommended for use with sex toys or other products that are porous as the formula may dissolve the surface making it sticky to the touch, and cause disintegration of the item over time. This damage may create a breeding ground for bacteria. We offer several product options if you have a porous toy, including: GUN OIL® H2O and GUN OIL® Gel. If you have non-porous toys, all GUN OIL® products may be used.
+
How easily are GUN OIL® products cleaned from sheets and fabrics?
Under normal use, all GUN OIL® products are easily washed from sheets and other fabrics. GUN OIL® Silicone can be promptly removed from fabrics with a strong detergent or a spot removal product.
+
What does topical and external use mean in terms of product directions?
External refers to an organ that is situated at or near the outer surface of the body. The mouth, vagina or anus are medically classified as external body organs. The key word is open. Subsequently the GUN OIL® products are meant to be used externally and topically (on top of).
+
Why use preservatives?
Some of our products do contain water. The addition of water provides for a lighter texture and easier rinsability. Water is a natural source in which bacteria can grow if not controlled. We utilize a safe and effective preservative system to ensure that our products remain safe and stable for use.
+
Do glycerin and other extracts or additives in lubricants cause yeast infections?
No, these ingredients are not directly related to yeast infections. Yeast infections are more commonly related to poor hygiene, weakened immune functions, following steroid or antibiotic use, as well as hormonal changes (menopause, menstruation, or pregnancy). Glycerin can render an existing yeast infection worse, as it is processed by the body as sugar. The ingredients in GUN OIL® products are glycerin-free and formulated to be gentle and safe.
