Why You Should Never Use Numbing Lubes

April 22, 2024

In the world of personal lubricants, there are plenty of options to enhance your intimate experiences. However, not all lubes are created equal, and some can actually pose risks rather than benefits. Today, we're diving into why you should steer clear of numbing lubes and opt for safer, more pleasurable alternatives like GUN OIL.

The Risks of Numbing Lubes

Masking Discomfort and Pain

Numbing lubes work by temporarily reducing sensation, which might sound like a good idea at first glance, especially if you are attempting to bottom for the first time. But here's the rub: reducing sensation means you're less aware of what's happening with your body. Pain is your body's way of signaling that something isn't quite right. By numbing yourself, you might miss these crucial signals and continue an activity that's causing harm. What starts as a minor discomfort can escalate into serious injury if you're not tuned into your body's responses.

Increased Risk of Injury

Imagine driving a car with the dashboard warning lights turned off. Sounds risky, right? That's essentially what you're doing when you use numbing lubes. Without the ability to feel discomfort, you might push your body beyond its limits. Microtears, abrasions, and other injuries become more likely because you're unaware of the need to stop or adjust. These injuries aren't just painful; they can also increase the risk of infections and other complications.

The Importance of Being in Tune with Your Body

Sensation and Pleasure

Sexual pleasure is deeply tied to sensation. The more in tune you are with your body, the more you can enjoy the nuances of touch, pressure, and movement. Numbing lubes dull these sensations, robbing you of the full spectrum of pleasure. Imagine listening to your favorite song with the volume turned way down--you'd miss out on the highs, the lows, and everything in between, right?

Communication and Consent

Great sex is about communication and mutual pleasure. Numbing lubes can interfere with your ability to accurately gauge and respond to your partner's needs and boundaries. If you can't feel discomfort, how can you ensure you're respecting your partner's comfort levels? Effective communication becomes challenging when one or both partners are desensitized. Consent is an ongoing process that relies on both partners being fully aware of and responsive to each other's experiences.

Why GUN OIL Stands Against Numbing Lubes

At GUN OIL, we believe that the best intimate experiences come from being fully present and in tune with your body. Our products are designed to enhance pleasure without compromising safety. Which personal lubricant is most appropriate for you?
There are three general types of intimate lubricants. You have a choice and determine which one is most suitable for you.

Silicone lubricants contain only silicones, no water. They are the longest lasting, provide extended glide, do not dry out and are also water-resistant. They are not absorbed by the skin or mucous membranes. This makes them ideal for longer sex sessions and for use in water, such as the pool, since they do not readily rinse away. These products have a more concentrated texture and are also ideal in the absence of natural lubrication.

Water based lubricants contain little or no silicone. They have a lighter, wetter feel than silicone-based lubricants due to added humectants, and they are ideal for enhancing natural lubrication. They are safe for use with all sex toys, and are easily washable from skin or fabrics. The consistency of water-based lubricants can range from an easy-to-pour liquid to a more concentrated gel, and they are relatively long lasting.

Hybrid lubricants consist of a blend of water, clear or cream emulsifiers, and silicone. Hybrids are ideal for enhancing natural lubrication, are longer lasting than water-based formulas, and have a uniquely soft, velvety feel. They are easily washable from skin or fabrics, they are safe for most sex toys and may also be used for light massage.

Does silicone remain in the body?
Silicone cannot be absorbed and is naturally evacuated from the body.

Which GUN OIL® products are safe to use with my sex toys?
As a general rule, silicone lubricants should not be used with porous products made of silicone, cyber-skin, jelly toys or similar materials. Silicone-based lubricants are not usually recommended for use with sex toys or other products that are porous as the formula may dissolve the surface making it sticky to the touch, and cause disintegration of the item over time. This damage may create a breeding ground for bacteria. We offer several product options if you have a porous toy, including: GUN OIL® H2O and GUN OIL® Gel. If you have non-porous toys, all GUN OIL® products may be used.
+
How easily are GUN OIL® products cleaned from sheets and fabrics?
Under normal use, all GUN OIL® products are easily washed from sheets and other fabrics. GUN OIL® Silicone can be promptly removed from fabrics with a strong detergent or a spot removal product.
+
What does topical and external use mean in terms of product directions?
External refers to an organ that is situated at or near the outer surface of the body. The mouth, vagina or anus are medically classified as external body organs. The key word is open. Subsequently the GUN OIL® products are meant to be used externally and topically (on top of).
+
Why use preservatives?
Some of our products do contain water. The addition of water provides for a lighter texture and easier rinsability. Water is a natural source in which bacteria can grow if not controlled. We utilize a safe and effective preservative system to ensure that our products remain safe and stable for use.
+
Do glycerin and other extracts or additives in lubricants cause yeast infections?
No, these ingredients are not directly related to yeast infections. Yeast infections are more commonly related to poor hygiene, weakened immune functions, following steroid or antibiotic use, as well as hormonal changes (menopause, menstruation, or pregnancy). Glycerin can render an existing yeast infection worse, as it is processed by the body as sugar. The ingredients in GUN OIL® products are glycerin-free and formulated to be gentle and safe.
